3 Volcanic Eruptions from 3 Different Countries in just 3 Days

3 volcanoes that lie around the Pacific’s Ring of Fire has erupted within a span of days this year.

Mount Popocatépetl near Mexico City erupted Thursday morning, January 9. The eruption caused the officials to issue yellow alert. The alert means that the volcano has showed signs of elevated unrest. Though, El Popo— the nickname of Mexico’s most active volcano— often erupts.

Mount Shintake in Japan erupted in Saturday, January 11. The eruption caused rocks to spewed about 300 meters from Mount Shintake’s crater on the Kuhinoerabu Island in the Kagoshima Prefecture. Alert level was raised to 3 after the eruption. Hikers were advised to not climb the mountains as authorities warned of the probability of flying rocks and pyroclastic flows within about a 2-kilometer radius of the crater.

Taal Volcano in Batangas, Philippines has erupted around Sunday afternoon which is currently being observed by the the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). As for the update, the volcano spewed lava fountains during the threat of hazardous eruption. The eruption of magma was recorded around 2:49 am to 4:28 am on Monday.

The Ring of Fire is a major area along the Pacific Ocean where active volcanoes and frequent eruptions occur due to the subduction of oceanic plates beneath lighter continental plates. Also it is a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions happens.

There are no reports that the eruption of the three volcanoes are connected. However, all three of them lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
