Barangay officials requiring voter IDs for food packs 'illegal', gov't says

Barangay officials requiring residents to show voter identification cards in exchange for food packs are executing an act of abuse and should be reported according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday. DILG Spokesman and Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said in a public briefing of Presidential Communication's Laging Handa that doing such act is not allowed and in this time requires for everyone to help, to have a good governance and not the time of politicking. He reminded the public to report abusive barangay officials to the DILG Emergency Operations Center at 09274226300, 09167721668, and 028763455 local 881. The official also added that the barangay officials should distribute the food packs per household and the allocation of food should be good for three to four days.
