China donates 2,000 COVID-19 test kits to PH

The Chinese Embassy and the China Mammoth Foundation donated 2,000 test kits against the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to the Philippines, a press release confirmed. The donations arrived in Manila on Monday morning.


According to Chinese ambassador Huang Xilian, more test kits are expected to arrive as well as medical supplies and gears such as personal protective equipment.


Huang also said that China and the Philippines are "brothers and good neighbors", in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News.


Huang stated that the test kits have been exported to more than 50 countries in the world. He aso described it as "fast" test kits as it can issue diagnostic results in 3 hours.


Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi also said that their country is also "willing to provide" medical assistance to the Philippines", via phone call with Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Sunday.


As of March 15, the Philippines has recorded a total of 140 COVID-19 cases, with 12 deaths reported.


On the other hand, the number of people infected with COVID-19 worldwide increased to 142,000 people as of March 14, according to World Health Organization (WHO).
