FCPC open to implement drug testing among students


Random drug testing may possibly be conducted in First City Providential College (FCPC), top school officials revealed.


School’s president Dr. Estrella O. Simon bared to Woke Up Daily that FCPC is considering the implementation of random drug testing should the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) requires all high educational institutions.


“FCPC needs to conform to CHED policy if they are really requiring all HEIs to have random sampling for drug testing,” Simon said.


In another interview, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Echel Simon-Antero also the possibility.


“We cannot break the rule or else we will be liable. So, ‘pag sinabi ‘yan ng CHED talagang gagawin natin,” Antero said.


When asked about the official partner for the drug testing in the school, Dr. Antero revealed that they have not yet look for a partner in regards to that. For the included students of the drug testing sampling the VPAA said that if CHED released a statement for every school to have a drug testing then the Tertiary Education students will have I. And if the DepEd also released a statement the Basic Education will participate as well.


She also added that a drug test sampling had already happened in First City Providential College were the college students cooperated with it.


“Oo, ang ginagawa nila dun random. And sila ‘yung pumupunta sa school. Nagkaroon tayo ng ganyan. If I’m not mistaken eight or seven years ago. Ganon katagal. College din ‘yan. ‘Di pa bumabalik.” Antero said.


PDEA Chief Director General Aaron Aquino stated in press conference, July 12, 2019, at the PDEA Headquarters in Quezon City about his new presented proposal to have a mandatory drug tests for high school and college students.


“Before the meeting ended, I told them maybe they can allow me to have mandatory drug testing for secondary and tertiary levels, even just that first,” Aquino said in an interview after his meeting with the Department of Education.


Based on PDEA data, more than half of minors arrested for engaging in illegal drugs were students.
